Call 111 - When it is less urgent than 999

Out of Hours

When our Ravenfield and Braithwell sites are closed, your call will be passed through to our main site at Morthen Road, Wickersley up until 6.30pm. It is helpful to inform staff at the main site that you normally attend one of our other surgeries. This avoids confusion when booking appointments, arranging for prescriptions to be raised etc.

When all the surgeries are closed, telephone calls to the Practice have previously automatically been routed to our out of hours deputising service, Care UK. However, this has changed from 10th June 2014.

Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have decided to transfer the call handling element of the out of hours service to NHS 111, as already happens in other parts of the country. When now telephoning the Practice out of hours, a recorded message will state that if the problem is urgent and cannot wait until the surgery opens, that you please hang up and telephone NHS 111, by just dialling 111 on your telephone. These calls are free from both landlines and mobile phones.

NHS 111 telephone operatives are fully trained to field your call appropriately, and are able to refer patients to A & E, 999 or where patients require advice or treatment from a GP, they will then be referred on to the Care UK service.

Alternatively, the nearest local NHS Walk-in Centre is situated within Rotherham District General Hospital on Moorgate, Rotherham. It is available for the treatment of minor illnesses and injuries outside of normal surgery opening hours.

If you feel that your condition is a life threatening medical emergency, then please dial 999 immediately.
